HISTORY
- 1st June 1958 United Automobile Services Ltd took delivery of 304 GHN, a Bristol LS coach, one of 5 in a batch bought for Extended Tours. Designed to carry 34 passengers in luxury the coach was oneof the early designs introduced in 1952, which has a 6 cylinder underfloor engine, synchromesh gear box and an integral chassis and body in order to reduce the all up weight.
- 1958 - 61 the coach was used on United's prestigious extended week long tours. It was then reseated from 34 recliners to 39 fixed coach seats and used on summertime day trips from Scarborough and occasional long distance service work.
- In 1971 it was bought by Morris Brothers of Swansea and by 1974 it had moved on to Newquay in Cornwall. We believe that after about 1978 the coach was laid up and never turned a wheel until purchased for preservation by lan Hunter of Leeds, who realised its unique place in the history of United.
- Following a successful Heritage Lottery Fund application by the Society, the restoration of the vehicle commenced in March 2000 and good progress is being made towards its return to the open road in its former glory.
